4th grade -
We have been learning about the musical elements melody and tempo. 4th graders composed their own melodies using bell sets, then performed them for the class. We also completed a spooky story composition project using the GarageBand app on our iPads. Ask your child to play it for you!

3rd grade-
3rd graders are exploring how beat and rhythm work together. We used the song “Rockin’ Robin” to perform the differences between beat and rhythm using body percussion and instruments. We also began exploring the GarageBand app and experimented with ways to make spooky sounds.
2nd grade-
2nd grade classes are learning songs using the pitch syllables so, mi, and la. We learned how to sing the song “Apple Tree” using words first, and then using pitch syllables. Check out the video below that shows the students singing the song both ways at the same time! We also used the poem “Mrs. White” to learn about ta (quarter note) and ti ti (eighth note) rhythms.

1st grade students are focusing on using their singing voices. We are also learning about the differences between beat and rhythm. We used a fun video with a Lego Lady to show the difference between beat and rhythm. We also played a game while singing the song "Apple Tree" and marching to the steady beat.

Kindergarten classes are working on keeping a steady beat. Steady beat is like your heartbeat. We used the songs “Pass the Pumpkin” and “Mr. Bones” to demonstrate steady beat with motions and instruments.

We are also working on using our singing voice. We played the game Mystery Monster and used our singing voices to give clues about what our monster looked like, and the rest of the class had to guess which monster we chose!
