The students love playing Kahoot! This is a great website to assess our learning and immediately get feedback to see how we did. The students love challenging themselves to identify the treble clef notes quickly!
Our 4th graders got to be silly while identifying notes on the treble clef staff! We danced around the path of hearts and when the music stopped, students had to identify the note on their heart. If I called their note name, they were out! We had a blast! :)
Our 4th and 5th grade choir students did a FANTASTIC job at the Festival of Song concert! Thank you for all your hard work and for coming to school early on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I'm so proud of you all!
Third graders use Rhythm Cat to practice reading rhythms! They are given several lines of rhythm to play while listening to a song. They must play the rhythms at the appropriate tempo in order to pass the level. Students are doing a great job!! We have had several students complete all the levels already!
Second grade students took turns creating rhythm patterns. We are learning about quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter note rests. Students made their rhythm pattern with popsicle sticks, then took turns performing it with their group.
Kindergarten students used pipe cleaners to learn about melodic direction and contour. They were able to bend their pipe cleaners into shapes, then trace their fingers along the pipe cleaner while singing. Their voices demonstrated the highs and lows of their pipe cleaner shapes. Students even got to perform their shapes for the class!
4th grade - We have been learning about the musical elements melody and tempo. 4th graders composed their own melodies using bell sets, then performed them for the class. We also completed a spooky story composition project using the GarageBand app on our iPads. Ask your child to play it for you! 3rd grade- 3rd graders are exploring how beat and rhythm work together. We used the song “Rockin’ Robin” to perform the differences between beat and rhythm using body percussion and instruments. We also began exploring the GarageBand app and experimented with ways to make spooky sounds. 2nd grade- 2nd grade classes are learning songs using the pitch syllables so, mi, and la. We learned how to sing the song “Apple Tree” using words first, and then using pitch syllables. Check out the video below that shows the students singing the song both ways at the same time! We also used the poem “Mrs. White” to learn about ta (quarter note) and ti ti (eighth note) rhythms. 1st grade- 1st grade students are focusing on using their singing voices. We are also learning about the differences between beat and rhythm. We used a fun video with a Lego Lady to show the difference between beat and rhythm. We also played a game while singing the song "Apple Tree" and marching to the steady beat. Kindergarten- Kindergarten classes are working on keeping a steady beat. Steady beat is like your heartbeat. We used the songs “Pass the Pumpkin” and “Mr. Bones” to demonstrate steady beat with motions and instruments. We are also working on using our singing voice. We played the game Mystery Monster and used our singing voices to give clues about what our monster looked like, and the rest of the class had to guess which monster we chose! Check back soon for more updates!
What is the difference between beat and rhythm? How would you perform the beat while watching the following video? How would you perform the rhythm? If you are interested in signing up for the Leonard 4th and 5th grade choir, please visit the website below:
